Choosing the Insect Screen: A Practical Guide

Choosing the Insect Screen: A Practical Guide
Before it gets properly warm, we can tell that spring is on its way from the arrival of flies and other insects. And one has to be extra careful not to turn on the lights when airing the rooms in the evening. But there is another way – and you can be sure that buying an insect screen will significantly improve your quality of life. But how to choose the right one?

Insect screens: solid, or roll-up?

When choosing insect screens for windows, there are several possibilities depending on the frame type and your preferences:

  • No drilling screens – ideal for modern plastic windows without drip moulds. The screens are attached to the frame by simple clamps, so no intervention into the window frame is required.
  • Screens with spring pins or swivels – suitable for older window types with drip moulds. Drilling into the window frame is required, which ensures stable fastening.
  • Roll-up screens – excellent for those who do not want to have a screen in the window all year round. You can simply roll them up and hide them in the box. They are particularly suitable for places where you need an unobstructed view.

Screens in the door apertures can be pleated

There are several possibilities for balcony and terrace doors:

  • Hinged door screen – solid version in an aluminium frame, that automatically closes thanks to the hinges. Great solution for frequent use. We also offer a frame with a slimmer profile and increased rigidity.
  • Pleated screen – ideal for where space is limited. The folding (pleated) screen is easy to unfold and roll up and does not take up much room. There are several variants available: opening vertically, double-sided vertical, opening horizontally, or opening vertically from the centre (intended for large door apertures).

Matching the screen to the design of the house

Whichever type you choose, insect screens do not have to sharply stand out, installed in building apertures. You can match their colour to that of the windows and doors. You can choose any RAL colour shown in the colour card, faux wood, or Renolit film.

If you have wooden windows, a faux wood screen will not interfere with the overall look of the house.

What should you look out for when making your choice?

  • Type of window or door. One type of screen will be suitable for plastic windows, and another for wooden or aluminium ones.
  • Frequency of use. If you frequently open the terrace door, consider a pleated screen.
  • Installation. Do you prefer a screen that does not require drilling, or do not mind fixed installation?

Additional features: pleated screens improve insulation; roll-up screens are easy to hide; door screens have self-closing hinges.

Once you have chosen and installed the insect screens, you can completely get insects out of your mind. Any screen will ensure easy airing from spring to autumn without annoying buzzing and small creatures bugging you.

But now we are taking innovation to a whole new level by perfectly matching the pergola and a carport on the same property thanks to our new product on the market – the ARTOSI Carport.
