In-ground or above-ground pool?
The advantages of above-ground designs are clear. Above-ground pools are cheaper, faster to build and do not require major construction modifications and land interventions. All you need is a flat surface on which to instal the pool, fill it up and you can swim in just a few hours.

The lifetime of the above-ground pool is only a few years, usually ten at the most. In contrast, in-ground variants can last for several decades. But this is not necessarily a disadvantage - some families with children or grandparents with grandchildren expect that the period of intensive summer swimming and splashing around in the garden will actually be relatively short. A small pool is enough for toddlers and preschool non-swimmers, and teenagers prefer going to water parks with their friends. So, if you are non-swimmers and the pool is only to be used as an attraction for children, it may suit you to dismantle the pool in a few years and use this space in a different way.
In-ground pool pays off for swimmers
Of course, above-ground pools also have other disadvantages. The pool will become the visual centre of the garden and the choice of shapes, sizes and decors is limited. In addition to a round, oval or rectangular shape, the in-ground pool can also have atypical shape, for example the popular fashionable kidney shape. Thanks to recess, they look more decent and natural in the garden, in addition, you can install heating, a swimjet, or shallows for smaller children or a built-in staircase instead of a ladder.

Be safe and never leave children alone in or near the pool. Polycarbonate roofing will increase safety and at the same time thermal comfort on colder days.
Where to place the pool? Ideally near the pergola
Above-ground or in-ground pool - in both cases, you need to think about suitable surface in its vicinity, as well as availability of facilities: space for drying, resting or refreshments. It is ideal to build the pool within reach of your garden pergola. It will provide shade, seating, space for a snack and shelter from sudden downpour.
