Which is the best way to shade your balcony or loggia?
The scorching sun can make spending time on a balcony uncomfortable, especially if it is oriented to the south. Which is the best way to shade it so that we can enjoy the balcony sitting area all day long?

Balcony awnings: inspiration from the Mediterranean

Terrace awnings are a long-proven way to cool down while staying on a balcony or terrace. They are traditionally used for this purpose in the Mediterranean. They can also be used to liven up a balcony with an interesting fabric pattern. The awnings are impregnated, so you don't have to go inside immediately if it rains slightly. A larger balcony or a smaller terrace can also be screened with a parasol, but you need to think about its thorough fixing and always retract it immediately in the wind.

Awnings can be supplemented with a sun-wind sensor, allowing them to automatically extend in sunny weather and retract when it starts to blow.

Shade and privacy: screen roller shutters

Screen roller shutters protect against the sun and unwelcome views from the outside. You can install them on both glazed and unglazed loggias. Their advantage is that they provide a view outside, but prevent a view from the outside. They also help keep perfect thermal conditions indoors during summer and winter.

Glazed loggias: vertical blinds

For glazed loggias, we can use some types of shading from classic windows. In this case, vertical blinds are a very suitable choice, which can easily be folded to the side when you need to open the glass panels.

Get your balcony or loggia glazed by OPTIMI, the only licensed manufacturer of frameless glazing systems in the Czech Republic.

Romance: light curtains

Curtains are not a very practical option, especially in windier and rainier areas. If we don't take them away before the rain comes, they will be limp and soaked with water for the next few hours. If it doesn't rain much in your place, light and bright curtains will make your balcony special and cosy. Their light fluttering in the wind will give it a romantic touch.

On balconies with a bar railing, you can shade the lower part with textile, reed or mesh screens.

Preventing interior overheating: exterior roller shutters or blinds

You don't mind the sun on your balcony, but would you like to prevent excessive sunlight from reaching the adjacent room of your apartment? Balcony windows and doors can be equipped with exterior roller shutters or blinds. Roller shutters are suitable if you sleep in the room with the balcony, but exterior blinds are more versatile in this case. We also wrote about this in the article about using exterior blinds in a block of flats.

Less stuff, more space: Japanese inspiration for minimalism
Minimalist interior is not just about "having few things at home". It is mainly about the feeling of lightness, clarity and peace that your home gives you every day. When you don't have chaos around you, you breathe better, think better, rest better and work better. Japanese minimalism can be a great inspiration in this because it combines respect for space, light and natural materials with functional elements such as sliding panels, Japanese blinds and Japanese walls. In this article, we will therefore look at how Japanese-style minimalism can be transferred to a typical Czech apartment or house and how Japanese walls and other shading techniques can help you with this.
