Balcony awnings: inspiration from the Mediterranean
Terrace awnings are a long-proven way to cool down while staying on a balcony or terrace. They are traditionally used for this purpose in the Mediterranean. They can also be used to liven up a balcony with an interesting fabric pattern. The awnings are impregnated, so you don't have to go inside immediately if it rains slightly. A larger balcony or a smaller terrace can also be screened with a parasol, but you need to think about its thorough fixing and always retract it immediately in the wind.
Awnings can be supplemented with a sun-wind sensor, allowing them to automatically extend in sunny weather and retract when it starts to blow.

Romance: light curtains
Curtains are not a very practical option, especially in windier and rainier areas. If we don't take them away before the rain comes, they will be limp and soaked with water for the next few hours. If it doesn't rain much in your place, light and bright curtains will make your balcony special and cosy. Their light fluttering in the wind will give it a romantic touch.
On balconies with a bar railing, you can shade the lower part with textile, reed or mesh screens.
