Proper care of blinds is important not only for their appearance, but also for their longevity. Although it may seem like cleaning blinds is difficult, it's not that difficult if you do it right.
The washing methods differ depending on whether it is interior blinds, which are usually less dirty, or exterior blinds, which are exposed to weather elements and require a little more maintenance. Cleaning of interior blinds
Our interior blinds are made of aluminium and require more gentle care.
1. Preparation:
- Pull the blinds down so that all the slats are visible.
- Turn the slats to the closed position (on one side) and then repeat the procedure for the other side of the blinds.
2. Dry cleaning:
- Duster or microfiber: Use a standard duster, an antistatic glove, or there is a special cleaner for blinds. Such a cleaner, thanks to its special shape, can cope with two slats at the same time and thus cleans a larger area with a single wipe.
- Vacuum cleaner: Set the suction power to low and use the sofa cleaning attachment.
3. Wet cleaning:
- Cleaning with a damp cloth:
o Prepare a solution of warm water and a mild detergent (e.g. washing-up liquid).
o Wet the cloth, wring it out and gently wipe individual slats. - For deeper cleaning:
o Remove blinds (if applicable) and rinse them in bath or shower.
o Dry them thoroughly to avoid corrosion
Cleaning of exterior blinds
Exterior blinds are exposed to dirt, dust and weather, and this is why they need more thorough cleaning.
1. Preparation:
- Turn the slats to closed position to cover the entire surface.
- If the blinds are extremely dirty, you can carefully blow them beforehand with a garden blower or rinse them with water from a hose.
2. Washing with water:
- Hose or pressure washer:
o Use gentle pressure to avoid damaging the slats or mechanics. - Bucket with water and detergent:
o Prepare a solution of water with soap or a special cleaner for exterior blinds.
3. Cleaning:
- Gently wipe the slats with a sponge or soft brush.
- Don't forget to clean the space between the slats.
4. Rinsing and drying:
- Then rinse the blinds with clean water.
- Ideally, let them dry naturally or use a dry cloth to remove excess water.
Tips and tricks for cleaning blinds
- Clean the blinds regularly to avoid the accumulation of hard-to-remove dirt.
- For interior blinds, it is useful to use an antistatic spray, which prevents the rapid accumulation of dust.
- When cleaning exterior blinds, it must not be too windy to avoid damaging them.
- If you live on a higher floor, clean the exterior blinds with your own safety in mind.
