Choosing Exterior Shading Elements: Blinds, or Roller Shutters?
It is not just about light control: exterior shading elements are also capable of improving heat and noise insulation, save energy, and increase safety. Which solution is better for you – exterior roller shutters, or exterior blinds?

Exterior Blinds: Maximum Light Control

Exterior blinds consist of slats that can be tilted to various angles and smoothly regulate the amount of light and privacy. You can choose the slat shape according to your personal taste as well as the degree of blackout you want with the blinds fully closed. Z-shaped or S-shaped slats fit together perfectly and provide the best blackout properties. And you do not need to pull them up when you need light for your daily activities – you will get exactly the amount of light you need in the room by tilting the slats.

You probably will not install them to a log house, and they will not be the best addition to a prefab building either. But they will fine-tune modern buildings and family houses even from the design point of view – you can choose the style and colour of the slats to suit your taste. In addition, they will protect the building from overheating in the summer and from heat losses through window panes in the winter. And let us not forget about safety: if you want to feel protected from violent intrusion, the ideal solution is the security model of exterior blinds, Titan 90.

And the controls available? A lever is the classic option, but nowadays, it would be a waste not to employ an electric drive and connect the blinds into your smart home system.

Exterior Roller Shutters: Full Blackout

Exterior roller shutters comprise interconnected elements rolled up to a box above the window. When rolled down, they provide almost total darkness and excellent thermal insulation. They can hide to a discreet box above the windows of buildings of all styles and ages. There probably is not a better choice if you want complete darkness in your bedroom.

But there are two sides to every coin: roller shutters do not allow smooth light regulation. If you need sufficient lighting in your room, but also privacy, you will need to add an interior shading element. Ideal to this end are pleated blinds with a bright fabric.

Exterior roller shutters can be connected to your smart home system as well. You can have them automatically rolled up every morning in addition to – or instead of – your alarm clock.

What Choice Should You Make?

Do you need thorough blackout, an additional protection from violent intrusion through the windows, or do you live in an area with severe freezing condition during the winter? Exterior roller shutters are an obvious choice. Would you prefer a single shading element that allows both blackout and smooth light regulation, all in a modern and elegant design?

Choose one of the exterior blind options. You can also combine the elements: roller shutters for your bedroom to ensure a good night’s sleep and blinds for better light control for your living room – especially if it is located on another side of the house.
